Winter care for perennials in pots

Hi! I have a balcony garden and have plants such as astrantia and thalictrum in pots. For the winter (my climate is very close to UK winters), once the foliage dies back, should I mulch the container to protect it? And how much water would be safe to give it? My balcony has an awning so they won’t get rained on.

Thank you

Hi Soliska,
I don’t think you need to mulch those for protection, only to feed them, which can be done in spring. They are both fully hardy plants. Watering you only need to do if they are starting to fully dry out
